These are my three beautiful nieces Breyonna, Jayla, and Tayln. We went out on a photoshoot in Wynnwood and did a Q&A about their natural hair journey.
They all big chopped in 2016.
2017 you better watch out–these babies are embracing their curls. I got a chance to talk curls with them and here is what they had to say:
Why did you decide to go natural?
I was sick of my hair burning. Real talk! I got annoyed with the fact that I couldn’t scratch my hair before getting it relaxed.
What are you favorite hair products?
If you could give natural hair teens advice what would you tell them?
Don’t get frustrated with your natural hair. Embrace your curls one day at a time.
What do you love about your hair?
I love that my hair is thick, puffy, and soft.
How did you feel when you big chopped?
I felt kind of embarassed at first because everyone was watching me cut my hair. I felt happy afterwards because I liked the way my hair looked in its natural state.
You watch a lot of YouTube vloggers. Who is your favorite?
My favorite YouTube vlogger is Jasmine Brown. I like her because her hairstyles are different. I enjoy watching her create her messy buns. Oh, I love your channel too!
What is you favorite hair products?
I love Creme of Nature’s entire collection. I love it because it works well for my hair texture and it smells like heaven.
I’m ready. What are you going to ask me?
Who combs your hair out the best on wash day?
Umm… Auntie Debra (that’s me). I like when you comb my hair because you hold it and comb it. You comb it from the ends up to the roots and it’s always so gentle. I don’t want other people combing it because I don’t want them pulling it and hurting my edges. I need my edges.
Who do you like to watch on YouTube when it comes to natural hair?
I like watching the Little Mind Catchers. Their hairstyles are always so cute.
Be on the look out for upcoming YouTube videos featuring my nieces. We’re going to be documenting their natural hair adventure every step of the way.
